My name is Eamon Ore-Giron and this exhibition is COMPETING WITH LIGHTNING / RIVALIZANDO CON EL RELÁMPAGO.

This mural is called "Where the Sky Breaks Its Back." And I conceived of it as a way to bring together a lot of the ideas that are in this exhibition, one of the main ideas is this idea of natural phenomenon, such as lightning, something that really in some ways is the only moment that even if you don't believe in a God or anything, if you stand next to a lightning bolt when it hits the ground, it makes you think of things beyond your body.

And even the world we live in, it gives you a little glimpse into something much bigger. And so following that theme I thought about cosmology. And I thought about astrological phenomena and the large form that you see at the top of the mural is a comet with a head which is taken from the serpent from Coatlicue, the painting in the Criscenti gallery and the waves that you see down below could both represent audio waves, but could also be viewed as the mountains, the Rocky Mountains.

Mi nombre es Eamon Ore-Giron. Y esta exposición es COMPETING WITH LIGHTING / RIVALIZANDO CON EL RELÁMPAGO.

Este mural se llama “Donde el cielo se rompe la espalda”. Y lo concebí como una forma de reunir muchas de las ideas que están en esta exposición. Una de las ideas principales es esta idea del fenómeno natural, como un rayo, algo que realmente, de alguna manera, es el único momento que incluso si no crees en un Dios ni nada, si te paras al lado de un rayo cuando golpea el suelo, te hace pensar en cosas más allá de tu cuerpo.

E incluso el mundo en el que vivimos, te da un pequeño vistazo a algo mucho más grande. Y siguiendo ese tema pensé en la cosmología. Y pensé en los fenómenos astrológicos y la forma grande que ves en la parte superior del mural es un cometa con una cabeza que está tomada de la serpiente de Coatlicue, la pintura en la galería Criscenti y las olas que ves abajo podrían ambos representan ondas de audio, pero también podrían verse como las montañas, las Montañas Rocosas.
