Educators Hub

Teen programs at MCA Denver are centered around creating meaningful experiences with contemporary art and artists.

These programs challenge teens by encouraging them to take creative risks and participate in contemporary dialogues. For teen programs at MCA Denver, this is defined as an embrace of creativity and the creative process, rather than the formal study or mastering of a classical art form. MCA Denver’s programs are not designed to produce expert painters or sculptors, but rather to understand and embrace the creative process, recognizing that creativity is a critical 21st Century skill across disciplines. By emphasizing creativity, we hope to help students gain the confidence for discovering the world both inside and outside the walls of the museum.

At MCA Denver we aim to provide students a meaningful introduction to contemporary art and artists. We also want to assist the educators that support them in the classroom. This can take on many forms from a guided tour to an in-school artist presentation, and beyond. We’re always looking for ways to connect to educators and support their work with teens.

Outreach program: MCA comes to your school

If MCA Denver teen programs had a secret menu our outreach programs would be at the top of the list. These hidden gems foster meaningful introductions to contemporary art and artists. In-school visits are designed to generate a point of connection with the museum, inspiring teens to grow their relationship with us and the greater artistic community here in Denver and beyond. Outreach programs bring exhibiting artists, local professionals, and more into a school setting. Each program takes on its own identity and might look like a panel of drag queens discussing gender and identity for the whole school, an interview lead by teens in front of their peers, an in-class artist demo, an application information session or perhaps a multi-week residency.

Wondering how much this might cost? Most programs are presented at no cost to the student or school. Like admission and all teen things, we believe that access shouldn’t be dictated by the amount of money folks have but rather by their interest and enthusiasm.
