My name is Eamon Ore-Giron. And this exhibition is COMPETING WITH LIGHTNING / RIVALIZANDO CON EL RELÁMPAGO.
I began my figurative work based on photographs that I had been taking with slide film. And since it's a transparency, you can project the image - this was prior to digital technology. So I had a lot of personal slides from family vacations and gatherings, and I would go through these slides and project them, and then they would be the basis for my paintings.
So going through these old slides and creating new images, Using this kind of technology and this approach of transparencies and slides allowed me to think about my family and its background, and a lot of the different components that kind of make up who we are. And it was also a way to kind of think of the idea of, of memory and identity and how these things are all intertwined.
So the figurative work allowed me to also almost think of painting in a more cinematic way and think of the subjects and the different clothing that they would wear and gave me an opportunity to possibly change those elements. And dip into ideas of surrealist approach, maybe clothing turns into a natural element. Maybe the figures turn into mountains and maybe by simple shifts of scale, you can really start to tease out different narratives in these images.

Mi nombre es Eamon Ore-Giron. Y esta exposición es COMPETING WITH LIGHTING / RIVALIZANDO CON EL RELÁMPAGO.
Empecé mi trabajo figurativo a partir de fotografías que tomaba con película de diapositivas. Y dado que son transparentes, puede proyectar la imagen, Eso fue antes de la tecnología digital. Así que tenía muchas diapositivas personales de vacaciones y reuniones familiares. Yo revisaba estas diapositivas y las proyectaba para que fuesen la base para mis pinturas.
Entonces, revisé esas diapositivas antiguas y creé nuevas imágenes. Usar este tipo de tecnología y este enfoque de transparencias y diapositivas me permitió pensar en mi familia y sus antecedentes, y en muchos de los diferentes componentes que nos hacen ser quiénes somos. Y también fue una forma de pensar en la idea de memoria e identidad y cómo ambas están entrelazadas.
Así que el trabajo figurativo también me permitió casi pensar en pintar de una manera más cinematográfica y pensar en los sujetos y las diferentes prendas que usarían y me dio la oportunidad de cambiar posiblemente esos elementos. Y sumergirse en ideas de enfoque surrealista, tal vez la ropa se convierta en un elemento natural. Tal vez las figuras se conviertan en montañas y tal vez por simples cambios de escala, realmente puedas comenzar a desentrañar diferentes narrativas en estas imágenes.
