Hello, my name is Clarissa Tossin, and I am here to talk about my exhibition, Falling From Earth.
I started using Amazon delivery boxes in my work in 2015, I think, when I was developing a body of work that looked at the presence of a big industrial hub in the city of Manaus, which is the capital of the state of the Amazon in Brazil. I started repurposing Amazon, the delivery boxes, into weavings.
The first weavings that I made, I used only strips of Amazon delivery boxes and they were small. I thought it was very interesting to use Amazon delivery boxes, which are all over, and they symbolize the level of global excessive consumption and production.
And there is the name. The name, the connection, the conceptual displacement between Amazon the name for the forest and Amazon the e-retail store. The ones that you are seeing in this gallery mix NASA images of specific sites on the Moon and Mars and a cluster of stars. The patterns are my creation, and I was very much thinking about trajectories of spaceships and rockets crisscrossing the sky and getting to other planets, other celestial bodies, and maps of journeys that are yet to be made.

Empecé a usar cajas de entrega de Amazon en mi trabajo creo que en 2015 cuando estaba desarrollando un cuerpo de trabajo que analiza la presencia de un gran centro industrial en la ciudad de Manaos, la capital del estado del Amazonas en Brasil. Empecé a reutilizar las cajas de entrega de Amazon en tejidos. El primer tejido que me hice usé solo tiras de cajas de envío de Amazon y eran pequeñas, y me pareció muy interesante usar cajas de envío de Amazon que están por todas partes y simbolizan el nivel de consumo y producción excesivos a nivel mundial. Y ahí está el nombre el nombre la conexión el desplazamiento conceptual entre Amazon, el nombre del bosque, y Amazon, la nueva tienda minorista, en las obras que estabas viendo en esta galería, incluye ahora que imágenes de tamaño específico en la luna y Marte y el cúmulo de estrellas y los patrones. Son mi creación, y estaba pensando mucho en las trayectorias de naves espaciales y cohetes que cruzan el cielo y llegan a otros planetas, otros cuerpos celestes, como mapas de viajes que aún no se han hecho.
