To celebrate the opening of the exhibition Citizenship: A Practice of Society, MCA Denver is hosting a human-powered, socially-distant parade on Saturday, October 3, 2020 from 2PM–4PM. The parade begins at the City of Cuernavaca Park, passes by the Denver Skate Park and Commons Park, heads down 15th Street and concludes at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver. Featured performers include the Handsome Little Devils and maybe you!

There are four ways to be involved.

1. First, you can join us along the parade route to watch and experience the fun in a safe and socially distant way. RSVP HERE 
2. You can sign up to create a human-powered “float” and march in the parade. SIGN UP HERE
3. Or finally, you can submit to be in the parade as a visual or performing artist, particularly if you have lost opportunities to show your work due to the COVID crisis. Up to 10 selected visual or performing artists will receive a $100 stipend for their participation. APPLY HERE
4. The parade will be live-streamed by artist Ryan Foo, for those who would prefer to stay at home. WATCH THE VIRTUAL PARADE HERE.

The parade route ends at the museum, so if you want to check out the exhibition that day, you will need to reserve your free ticket before hand. Ticket reservations will be available on September 21, 2020.

For Spectators:

• The parade is free 
• Socially-distant viewing spots will be available along the parade route
• The parade begins at the City of Cuernavaca Park, passes by the Denver Skate Park on 19th Street, and near Commons Park on Little Raven, and continues down 15th Street to end on 15th and Delgany at the Museum of Contemporary Art
• Each viewing area clearly marked and limited to 175 socially distanced spectators
• Each viewing area will be standing room only, and first come first serve
• We encourage all spectators to wear masks and follow COVID guidelines for social distancing
• Parking is available in the parking garage on 15th and Delgany, across the street from the Museum of Contemporary Art. Normal parking rates will apply
• If you plan to visit the museum before or after the Parade for the People, please reserve your ticket at mcadenver.org. Tickets for Oct 3 will be available on September 21, 2020

For Community Participants:

The parade is in celebration of the opening of MCA Denver's Citizenship: A Practice of Society exhibition. For the parade, we want to bring people together, celebrate each other, and be creative. Gather your crew and come up with something fun. Participants of all ages are encouraged to submit their ideas. To be considered, please submit your name, your idea for a human-powered parade float (it can be as simple or as elaborate as you like). $100 cash prizes will be awarded for the best citizenship-themed human-powered floats in four categories: funniest float, most socially distant, most 2020, and people’s choice.

Community Parade Participants Guidelines:

• Float submissions must be "human-powered" (that is, no cars or motorized vehicles)
• Bicycles, skateboards, wheelchairs, grocery carts, wheelbarrows, wagons, scooters, feet, and other human-powered forms of locomotion are all okay
• In accordance with COVID guidelines, all participants must wear masks and should plan to stay 25 feet away from spectators.
• No tossing items into the crowd
• No animals. Service animals are okay
• Floats cannot contain offensive words or imagery
• Participants can be any age – children 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult
• If music is a part of your float, please include this as a part of your float description
• All children under 15 riding a bicycle, scooter, skateboard, etc. must wear proper safety equipment
• Four (4) $100 cash prizes will be awarded to parade participants in the following categories: funniest float, most socially distant, most 2020, and people’s choice. Winners will be selected and prizes will be awarded day-of-parade
• The parade will go on, rain, shine, or snow

For Visual Artists:

We are seeking artists or performing artists whose exhibitions and performance opportunities were canceled due to COVID. To participate in the parade, your art must be (or be able to become) mobile and human-powered. Selected artists will be offered a $100 stipend for their participation. To be considered, please submit up to five (5) images of your work and/or a link to your portfolio or website, along with a brief description of how you will present your artwork or performance in the parade.

Visual Artist Parade Guidelines:

• Your art, or the display of your art, must be mobile. You must be able to move all of your artwork through the one-mile parade route
• Float submissions must be "human-powered" (that is, no cars or motorized vehicles)
• Bicycles, skateboards, wheelchairs, grocery carts, wheelbarrows, wagons, scooters, feet, and other human-powered forms of locomotion are all okay
• In accordance with COVID guidelines – all participants must wear masks and should plan to stay 25 feet away from spectators
