Call 720-845-5413 extension 37 to hear this dream.
Children run back & forth over the wide lawn as sprinklers spray water into the air. The laughing children dodge in & out of the sprinklers’ spray. You step into the grass & your foot knocks something. You stoop to pick it up. It is an old key, tarnished & caked with grime. You clean the key as best you can, running your fingernails through the grooves, scraping off the gunk, & yet the key is still grubby & worn down. You walk to a patch of open soil & dig a hole with your bare hands & lay the key inside & press the soil back over the key. Time passes. You do the things you do with your daily life, the exciting ones & the dull ones, the memorable & the forgettable. And then you are back here at the spot where you planted the key. Again, children—they might even be the same children—scream & howl & laugh & run about in a game of tag as the sprinklers spray water high into the air. The planted key has grown & expanded into a thick row of bushes & from the tips of each branch on each bush hang thousands & thousands of bright, sparkling keys. The playing children run over to you. You hand each one a basket. And continuing their game of tag & their laughter & their joy as they work, the children collect the keys from the bushes, until they have filled all the baskets with shining keys. And the children all take their share of keys—good, fresh keys, grown in good soil, keys that could unlock anything, keys that no one knows what they will one day unlock—& they take keys for their family members & their friends & for people they’ve seen around the neighborhood, & even when all the kids have filled their pockets with keys, the baskets are still filled with so many more keys.
