MCA Denver presented a series of photo-based collages by Mario Zoots for Denver's Month of Photography. The artist appropriated imagery from a wide range of sources such as 1950's and 60’s cult films and science fiction novels. The precious scale of the smaller works contrasts with the mass media sources from which they derive.
Mario Zoots was born in 1981 in Denver, where he currently lives and works. He received his BFA from Metropolitan State University, Denver and his MA from the University of Denver. He currently teaches at both Metropolitan State University and Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design. In August of 2013, he participated in the Biennial of the Americas with a unique collage that was printed and exhibited on a billboard on a major street in Denver. Zoots’ work has been exhibited internationally since 2010 when he created an installation at the Museum of Image + Sound in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
