The Position

The Membership & Donor Events Manager serves as a key member of the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver’s Development & Membership team. This role is responsible for driving the growth of the Museum’s membership program and executing Development and Membership-related events, under the planning and guidance of the Director of Development & Memberships. This position is responsible for engaging members, donors, and museum patrons through membership recruitment & acquisition and the Development Events Calendar. The position collaborates closely with the following MCA Denver departments: Marketing; Community Outreach & Partnerships; Visitor's Services & Retail Management; and Event, Food & Beverage. This position will have a strong desire to foster meaningful relationships, elevate the Museum’s membership offerings, and execute impactful events to build MCA Denver’s contributed revenue.

Known for its distinct approach, MCA Denver hosts a variety of fun, offbeat, and engaging events that go beyond traditional museum programming. From rooftop music sessions to community-focused gatherings, MCA events are designed to spark creativity, connection, and a sense of community.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

With the Director of Development & Membership (DoDM) and the Annual Fund Manager, this position is responsible for overseeing and contributing to the following priority areas:

1. Membership & Events

  • Develop and execute an annual strategic plan with the Director of Development & Membership to engage and recruit members, emphasizing innovative and impactful marketing, campaigns, outreach, and events across all membership levels.
  • Work with the DoDM to establish and achieve membership and event revenue goals, ensuring alignment with the Museum’s financial objectives.
  • Manage and support the planning of the yearly calendar of Development and Membership events, including donor stewardship gatherings, fundraising receptions, membership-exclusive experiences (ex: curator tours, receptions, and meetups), and community celebrations.
  • Oversee event execution and follow up with stewardship activities, including thank-you communications and post-event reports.
  • Generate member-exclusive content for digital channels, including the Museum’s website, social media, and email campaigns.

2. Community & Corporate Partnerships

  • Actively seek, establish, and maintain strategic partnerships with corporations, local businesses, and organizations that align with the Museum’s mission and brand.
  • Attend external functions to promote member registrations and foster community and corporate partnerships.

3. Membership Administration & Data Management

  • Manage the membership email account and membership processes in the fundraising database and membership related softwares to ensure accurate records of event participation, benefit fulfillment, and renewal tracking.
  • Create membership and event reports for management and stakeholders.
  • Maintain the database with updates and act as a resource for internal inquiries related to member ticketing and registrations.
  • Execute corporate and individual membership contracts.

4. Cross-Departmental Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Community Outreach & Partnerships team to integrate membership initiatives with broader community programs.
  • Work with Visitor Services & Retail Management to train staff on converting visitors into members and enhancing the member experience.
  • Partner with the Event, Food & Beverage team to ensure seamless execution of all event-related activities.
  • Coordinate with the Marketing Department to develop and implement strategic campaigns for member recruitment, retention, and event promotion.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

Other Duties/Responsibilities: Other assistance, as designated by the Director of Development & Membership, to support the overall goals of the department and organization.  Management retains the right to add or change duties and/or responsibilities at any time.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Budgetary/Fiscal Responsibilities: Responsible for achieving membership revenue goals.

Responsibility for Confidentiality: The nature of this position requires safeguarding against the release of confidential and proprietary information of MCA.

Contact with Others: This position will interact with managers at all levels and staff members across the organization, in addition to members of external organizations and the public.

Education/Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, memberships, and/or event management, preferably in the arts or a related field. A bachelor’s degree in a related area is highly preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:   

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong desire and comfort in serving as a front-facing representative of MCA Denver, engaging with donors and patrons in a variety of social settings and events. This role requires tact, professionalism, and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality while fostering meaningful connections that support the museum's mission.

Proven computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.  Experience with CRM database management, MailChimp and Slack strongly preferred.

Requires excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work and tasks. Requires adaptability to produce and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-task and changing environment, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Most importantly, we ask that you have a strong desire to learn and a curiosity to think creatively about membership engagement and events.

Schedule Availability: Week-days and some nights and weekends for Museum events.

Licences/Certifications: None.

Ability to speak, understand, and communicate in English effectively, in person and in writing. Ability to hear adequately in person and by phone, in personal and group settings.

Ability to work with, and process information from, a variety of individuals and media (e.g. computers, projected images, printed materials), and sitting and/or standing up to 6 hours per day. 

Mobility necessary to access various offices and a wide variety of meeting and museum settings. Mobility necessary to perform a variety of tasks that involve standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending and twisting, occasionally climbing stairs or using an elevator, possibly reaching chest high and overhead for materials.

Ability to reach for, move and/or lift up to 40 pounds and the use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.

Our History

MCA Denver was founded in 1996 by philanthropist Sue Cannon and a group of committed volunteers and artists who responded to the community’s need for a contemporary art museum in Denver. In 2007, we opened our new, 27,000-square foot, environmentally sustainable facility in the Riverfront neighborhood of Lodo Denver. Application Process

  • This is an exempt, salary position. The salary range is $60,000 to $65,000 commensurate with experience and includes our standard benefits package, including a medical plan, dental plan, basic term life insurance, short-term disability, 403b retirement, holiday pay, and generous paid time off.
