Hyphen-American: A Conversation Series with YaSi

Inspired by Nari Ward: We the People, we're hosting a series of conversations highlighting the first- and second-generation immigrant experience and representations of it in American media.

Think of this as your bi-weekly book club, but with less commitment. Every other week, a new moderator will pick a piece of media for you to read or watch. Then we'll come together Tuesday evening over Zoom to discuss.

Please note that this program will take place online, and you will need to download Zoom to attend.

July 21 6PM with Naghem Swade

August 4 with YaSi

August 18 with Danny Ramos

Iranian American artist YaSi, is a firecracker on stage with sentimental lyricism. Introspective, genre bending, and honest music has led YaSi to tour with Raja Kumari and open for the likes of Teyana Taylor to Zara Larsson. Her music has been on Spotify's Fresh Finds along with blogs like Earmilk and Indie Shuffle.

YaSi will be discussing Iranian-born artist Shirin Neshat's work. Learn more about Shirin Neshat in the talk linked here.

Check your confirmation email for your homework assignment to participate in the discussion.
