Garageband Music Series: Felix Ayodele & The New Moons
This Friday is the final show in our Garageband Music Series with performances by Felix Ayodele & The New Moons and The Grand Alliance. The music series takes place on the 5th floor of the parking garage across the street from the museum. The future's looking brighter knowing that we can safely offer in-person performances and give you something to groove to online in the comfort of your home! It’s time to reclaim Friday nights!
Who is Felix Ayodele & The New Moons? Have you ever played in a garage before? What about a parking garage?
We are a musical unit that aims to use sound to discover freedom. Actually yes, myself and Mark Emmons met playing music in a barn turned into a garage. Exactly.
Where did the name, Felix Ayodele & The New Moons come from?
Felix Ayodele is my real name and the New Moons comes from the unknown essence of a particular moon phase.
How long have you been part of the Denver music scene?
Collectively in different iterations all of us have about two decades playing music in Denver with the exception of Tim Philpott our bass player, he's been here for about four or so but has been laying his sound into the Denver music landscape.
What’s your sound like? Describe in terms of if Felix Ayodele & The New Moons was an ice cream flavor.
We are a mixture of world music and soul with some important pieces of jazz exploration in the mix. Easy! Neon-Neopolitan 6th ice cream.
What’s your experience been of Denver’s music scene?
It’s been lovely. We are supported in our eclecticism, that is the best part of Denver in my opinion.
How have you found ways to stay creative in your music during COVID?
I would say Zoom has helped me keep trading ideas with other people during this era. That's probably the most helpful tool to keep the creative development going.
If you're permitting yourself at this point to get/feel excited about anything for the year ahead, what is it and why?
Ohhh yes, a new album, new music with the New Moons, and expanding as a musician & human being.
