Community Spotlight: Secret Walls Paint Battle at Bluebird Theater

Tai Bickham

Text

Secret Walls began in 2006 with the mission to “SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL ARTIST”, at a time when street artists were looked at more as vandals than creators of public art. Since the creation of these live underground paint battles in London, these underground events have expanded globally, creating awareness and celebration of the creative talent of street artists.

Secret Walls Paint Battle comes to the Bluebird Theater on Tuesday, August 23. I had the opportunity to email with CEO of Secret Walls, Kevin Collins, to learn more about this event that celebrates artists, music, and creativity.

Hi Kevin! How are you doing?

Doing great! Thanks for asking - very excited to talk!

What are Secret Walls? How did this event initially come together?

Over the last sixteen years Secret Walls, which began in London in 2006 by bringing together street artists to engage in 90 minute live art battles, has emerged as a global platform for the artists to connect to fans and a collector base, and to a community of other artists.

Inspired by classic comic books + the best of punk & hip hop, Secret Walls was launched to fill a space for the arts, bringing these talents together, on stage in front of an audience to create.

Are events hosted throughout the U.S.? How do you connect with your venues and artists?

Yes, we will be traveling to over 30 markets across all of North America on tour.  We made a decision to travel as far and wide as we could to bring our Live Art Property to life.

We have an amazing tour partner in APA that has helped guide the tour and work on venue selection.  And the artists, that's all Secret Walls.  Part of what makes Secret Walls special is that we’ve built a network of over 2,000 global artists over the past 16 years.  What this tour is allowing us to do is grow that network even further and plug new artists into our community.

Who are the artists to be featured at the Denver show at Bluebird Theater?

We are SO pumped for Denver.  Taking the battle stage will be:

A.L.Grime, Mike Fudge, cuttyup and Shane Huss

Why is Secret Walls something that the community should experience?

There has never been more interest in street art and its radically diverse practitioners.

Secret Walls creates access to the art and artists, context from where the art emerges and pathways to glimpse and consider how art will be created and consumed in the future.

Anything missed? Please share!

Oh there will always be something new and exciting at a Secret Walls event!  We’re very excited about the Secret Walls Rewards Program that we just announced through a partnership with Palm NFT Studio and Moonwalk.  If you go to our website and grab a Free NFT you’re able to unlock a whole new level of Secret Walls fandom!
