Compagnie Hervé Koubi delivers a highly physical, stunningly fluid work that defies gravity. The 14 all-male virtuoso ensemble hails from Algeria, Morocco and the Mediterranean basin. Mixing capoeira, martial arts, and contemporary dance on the stage, the ensemble combines the powerful imagery of Asian art and Islamic architecture, with a diverse soundtrack that includes recordings by Kronos Quartet, Johann Sebastian Bach and others.

Food simmers on the stove, laughter abounds and strangers become friends in this joyous celebration of life.
Nashville Ballet’s Production of Lucy Negro Redux

Lucy Negro Redux is an original ballet choreographed by Nashville Ballet’s Artistic Director Paul Vasterling based on Caroline Randall William’s book of poetry of the same name. The piece explores the author’s thesis that the “Dark Lady” and the “Fair Youth” – the subjects and inspiration of hundreds of Shakespeare’s love sonnets – were undoubtedly a black woman and a young man, respectively.
