A Behind the Scenes Look at B-Side Music Fridays

Text

With B-Side Music Fridays starting back up June 15 for the summer, we sat down with Carina Buchwald, Manager of Social Programs & Events, and the mastermind behind this entire series, to get the deets on the summer lineup and what we can expect.

First of all, could you give us the origin story of how B-Side came to be?

Throughout the years we had different iterations of a Friday night music series, but felt that we were missing out on so many amazing performers. In 2015 we decided to really focus on emerging artists or side projects. However, as we started working on the lineup we found that Colorado is ripe with incredible musicians whether they are just starting out or established. MCA Denver wants to feature them all and show just how interesting our music scene is.

How did you put together this summer’s lineup?

This year I worked with an intern from our teen Ambassadors program to come up with a diverse lineup. We worked on trying to match musical styles and to make each night unique and interesting.

What kind of music can we expect?

You can expect some dreamy electronic pop, soul, psych rock, rap, country, funk, and more.

Who are you most excited to see?

It’s impossible to choose, so I’ll be there every Friday since the lineup is that good.

Is it true that the first 100 people get a free Ratio beer at B-Side?

Yes! It starts at 5PM so I highly recommend coming early if you want a free beer.

What does it cost to come to the shows?

The shows are actually free with museum admission and it’s $5 after 5PM. However, if you are a member, it’s always free admission.

What makes B-Side so special?

The music really is what makes B-Side so special. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that it is on our rooftop deck and we have a great selection of crafted cocktails to enjoy.
