DEADEYE D0J0
Beings from the void tasked with the purpose of conveying the virtues of intergalactic kung fu.
Hi Deadeye D0j0! How are things?
Things are great but unfortunately, this will probably be our last show together with the OG members of Deadeye D0j0 so feeling a lil melancholy.
Who is Deadeye D0j0? How did the band come together?
Deadeye D0j0 is a groove heavy hip-hop supergroup with elevated lyrics to satisfy a modern audience seeking the path to enlightenment. Beings from the void tasked with the purpose of conveying the virtues of intergalactic kung fu. The band came together after Pterrorfractyl and Namebackwardss sat in with Dr3amCa$t at a UMS set in 2019.
How long have you been performing in Denver? What is your favorite thing about the Denver music scene?
We've been performing in Denver since then and our fav thing about the Denver music scene is exactly that, collaboration across genres.
Where do you find inspiration for your music?
We draw inspiration from the void, that is everything and all things existing in our subconscious and conscious mind.
Who are some artists/creators that are influential to your musical practice?
The king of all kings, The Big Lebowski.
Music can be an immersive experience. How would you describe your sound as a texture, a scent, or a taste?
Dew on fresh bark deep in the jungle of our subconscious mind.
What should we expect from your performance?
Expect this performance to be explorative, unexplainable, and kaleidoscopic.
What are you excited about for this year?
Excited to explore the sonic unknowns with our cosmic comrades.
+Ultra
+Ultra (pronounced Plus Ultra), is a band/producer duo composed of Bharat Bhargava and Ryan Bannigan. This special MCA Denver performance features Ishka Phoenix, Absenz, & Dana Rael on the mic, Jordan Henderson on bass, & Callum Bair on guitar. +Ultra's live show is dynamic and intriguing, ranging from jazz, hip-hop, & RnB with influences of drum & bass, and house. +Ultra's mission is to create your best friend’s beat tape.
Hi +Ultra! How are things?
We’re feeling great! We released our new single, Dystopia, featuring Tesoro, Grayson Erhard, & GhostPulse. Imagine if Radiohead wrote a downtempo track, Machinedrum flipped the beat to d&b halfway through the song, & there was the tastiest guitar solo at the end.
Who is + Ultra? How did the band come together?
+Ultra is a duo, Bharat Bhargava on keys/MD & Ryan Bannigan on Drums/Production. After jamming together back in 2020, we wrote, recorded, & self-produced an EP’s worth of music. We collaborated with some incredible artists such as Ishka Phoenix, Kid Astronaut, Dana Rael, & Absenz.
How long have you been performing in Denver? What is your favorite thing about the Denver music scene?
+Ultra played our first show as a band last year. Individually, we’ve actively been playing in the Denver music scene with other artists & bands. Our favorite thing about the music scene here is the community. There’s so many amazing weekly events that are elevating the community, such as Eman’s, Off the Cuff, at Meadowlark, Venus Cruz at Gerards or Herbs, Corner 3 at Milk Bar.
Where do you find inspiration for your music?
Besides the community we mentioned, some inspiration comes from some of our favorite anime & video games.
Who are some artists/creators that are influential to your musical practice?
Since both of us are full time musicians, we tend to take a little bit of influence from a lot of different artists. When we started writing, we tried to write songs based on artists like Bonobo, Robert Glasper, Machinedrum, and many others. Our writing is a reflection of who we listen to and how we feel at that moment.
Music can be an immersive experience. How would you describe your sound as a texture, a scent, or a taste?
We are like an Indian curry, the first bite is an explosion of flavor and you can only describe it in simple terms (spicy, sweet, salty). You don’t know why you like it other than it’s good. So you take the next bite and then the next one, soon your descriptors become more specific (hints of cinnamon, garlic nodes, paprika, etc). When you come to, you finish the whole plate and you want more.
What should we expect from your performance?
This whole show is going to be a Denver musician hangout session! We are bringing musicians and singers from artists like Same Cloth, Such, Ghost Tapes, and even our brothers in Deadeye D0j0! Just come for the vibes and just hangout with us!
What are you excited about for this year?
WE ARE RELEASING MUSIC!!! We have been writing constantly for the past two years and we are finally releasing it all! We have already released two singles from our upcoming EP titled Metropolis, and we have music with our homie Kid Astronaut dropping later this year! We might have already started working on our 2nd EP as well.
