Facilities & Operations Manager

The Facilities & Operations Manager plays a critical role in ensuring MCA Denver’s physical spaces function at the highest level — supporting the presentation of contemporary art, ensuring visitor and staff safety, and maintaining the museum’s long-term infrastructure integrity. This role is responsible for the maintenance, safety, and operations of MCA’s 27,000 square foot LEED Gold-certified building and a leased, 400-seat auditorium.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Priority 1: Facility Management

This role requires a proactive and hands-on approach to maintaining and improving the museum’s physical environment, ensuring that all systems operate efficiently to support daily operations and visitor experience.

  • Monitor, inspect, maintain, and manage the repair of building life services including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, janitorial, fire and building security systems.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs and manage the facilities log.
  • Monitor and maintain the building’s temperature and humidity levels consistent with art preservation standards.
  • Support event and programming production with facilities logistics, including setup and breakdown.
  • Maintain and organize the Museum’s offsite storage area.
  • Develop and manage facility-related operating procedures and policies.
  • Maintain digital and physical records of maintenance schedules and repairs.
  • Develop a short- and long-term facilities plan that outlines immediate priorities, future needs, and a strategic vision for the organization’s physical infrastructure.

 Priority 2: Safety Compliance

This role demands a vigilant and detail-oriented mindset to uphold safety standards, ensure regulatory compliance, and create a secure environment for staff, visitors, and artwork.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety and security protocols, developing contingency plans as necessary.
  • Coordinate with local and state officials to comply with regulations and maintain required facility licenses/​certificates including, but not limited to, fire, elevator and general operating licensure.
  • Manage facility access procedures.
  • Respond to facility emergencies, including alarm and fire systems.
  • Perform daily a walkthrough of the facility to determine potential safety issues.

Priority 3: Financial

This role involves strategic and responsible financial stewardship of the facilities budget, requiring the ability to plan, track, and manage resources effectively to support both short-term needs and long-term infrastructure investments.

  • Create (with the COO), manage, and adhere to the annual facility budget.
  • Plan for longer term capital expense and asset life cycle replacement.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce or repurpose facilities expenses.

Priority 4: Collaboration and Coordination

This role requires the ability to communicate and collaborate cross-functionally with departments to problem-solve facilities needs that also take into consideration the needs and priorities of other teams. 

  • Coordinate with the Chief Operating Officer on new building projects that take into consideration the priority level and scope of work, budgetary needs, stewardship of our mission and risks to the organization.
  • Coordinate with facility vendors to ensure all systems are functioning optimally.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure the safety, security and surveillance of the installed artwork.
  • Oversee contract services such as janitorial and garbage.
  • Attend staff meetings and report as needed on facility-related issues.
  • Conduct training for staff members on facility-related topics.
  • Assist with facility requirements for the Annual Gala and other development events.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

Other Duties/​Responsibilities: Other assistance, as designated by museum leadership, to support the overall goals of the department and organization.  Management retains the right to add or change duties and/​or responsibilities at any time.

Supervisory Responsibilities: May oversee the work of part-time maintenance support as needed.

Responsibility for Confidentiality: The nature of this position requires safeguarding against the release of confidential and proprietary information of MCA.

Contact with Others: This position will interact with managers at all levels and staff members across the organization, in addition to members of external organizations. 

Job Requirements/​Experience

Education: Technical degree preferred, or any equivalent combination of education and/​or experience. 

Experience: Requires minimum of 5 years’ experience in facilities management.  Experience with museum or library facilities is strongly preferred.  Current facilities-related licenses are strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:   

Requires the ability to perform minor maintenance repairs and read and understand building/​mechanical plans and working knowledge of HVAC systems. Requires excellent analytical and organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work and tasks. Requires adaptability to produce and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-task and changing environment, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Schedule Availability: Days, nights & weekends; availability to perform 24/7 emergency duties.

Licenses/​Certifications: Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Manager of Individual Giving

We are looking for a Manager of Individual Giving to play a key role on MCA Denver’s Development & Membership team. This position is responsible for managing a portfolio of mid-to-major level donors, developing and executing strategic annual fundraising campaigns, and overseeing the museum’s philanthropic membership programs, including Contemporary Circles and Heart Club.

Working in close collaboration with the Director of Development & Membership (DoD&M), Membership & Donor Events Manager, and Marketing team, this role drives individual giving strategy through thoughtful donor segmentation, compelling communications, and personalized stewardship. The Manager plays a role in designing and managing year-round donor engagement efforts — from campaigns and appeals to bespoke events and donor benefit fulfillment.

This position also helps shape and sustain MCA Denver’s Annual Fund, ensuring a strong pipeline of donor support across all levels. Through portfolio management, campaign leadership, and relationship-building, the Manager cultivates deeper connections with the museum’s community of supporters and advances opportunities for increased giving.

The ideal candidate will bring creativity, strategic thinking, and a deep curiosity about what motivates philanthropic support. They will be energized by collaboration and capable of independently driving projects forward within a dynamic, mission-driven environment. 

About You

You have experience working in, or demonstrated enthusiasm for, arts and cultural organizations — particularly museums.

You have strong interpersonal skills and comfort serving as a front-facing representative of MCA Denver in a variety of donor and public settings.

This role requires a high degree of initiative and independent judgment; you must be a self-starter capable of conceptualizing, problem-solving, and executing long-term projects while balancing competing priorities.

You are creative, with a curious mindset with a desire to continually improve donor engagement, stewardship, and communication strategies.

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent certification in a related field is preferred but not required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

A Day in the Life

Fundraising

  • Manage a portfolio of ~75 mid – major level donors ($1K — $15K) with responsibility for strategy, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Generate approximately $600,000 in contributed revenue annually through individual giving campaigns, a portfolio of mid-to-major donors, and fundraising events (Gala; Spring Fundraiser; etc.).
  • Lead the development and execution of key fundraising campaigns, including end-of-calendar-year and end-of-fiscal-year appeals, in partnership with Marketing and Development colleagues.
  • Oversee the museum’s philanthropic membership program, Contemporary Circles, with a focus on acquisition, retention, and upgrading members into major gift prospects.
  • Evaluate and enhance membership benefit structures to increase engagement and long-term support.
  • Track donor interactions in Altru, conduct prospect research, and collaborate with the Database Manager to generate reports that inform fundraising strategy.
  • Co-lead stewardship efforts across donor levels, including acknowledgments, benefit fulfillment, and communications.
  • Design and lead select donor engagement events that deepen relationships and highlight impact.
  • Provide strategic support for the museum’s fundraising events, including Luminocity Gala and other cultivation programs.
  • Work with the DoD&M to establish and achieve fundraising revenue goals as relevant to the Annual Fund, entry-mid level donor acquisition, and fundraising events.
  • Manage annual fund-related expense budgets for end-of-year giving, relevant fundraising events, and Contemporary Circles.

Donor Communications & Marketing

  • Co-develop and manage a comprehensive donor communications calendar in partnership with the DoD&M and Membership & Donor Events Manager, aligning content with fundraising and engagement goals across donor, member, and patron segments.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Marketing team to ensure consistent messaging, timelines, and deliverables for all fundraising and membership communications.
  • Write and oversee compelling donor-facing content, including appeals, acknowledgments, newsletters, invitations, and stewardship materials, tailored to specific audience segments.
  • Support content development for fundraising events and campaigns as needed.
  • Track and analyze engagement metrics to inform and refine communication strategies.

Strategic & Administrative Leadership

  • Collaborate across the Development & Membership team to align goals and support a culture of philanthropy.
  • Partner with Marketing/​Communications to manage timelines and deliverables for fundraising content and collateral.
  • Contribute to long-term strategy for individual giving growth and institutional advancement.
  • Support preparation for Development & Membership Committee meetings, donor solicitations, and cultivation events.
  • Manage external vendors for fundraising events as needed.
  • Complete administrative tasks that advance the goals of the Development & Membership department.

What You Bring to Us

  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising, with demonstrated success in one or more of the following areas:
    • Managing and growing a portfolio of individual or major donors, including solicitation of gifts at the $1,000+ level.
    • Overseeing donor membership programs (e.g., Contemporary Circles), including benefit design, retention strategies, and upgrade pathways.
    • Leading multi-channel fundraising campaigns (email, direct mail, social, and in-person), with strategic segmentation and data-informed messaging.
    • Planning and executing donor communications, acknowledgments, impact reports, and VIP stewardship events.
    • Supporting or leading donor engagement strategies tied to fundraising events such as annual galas, including cultivation and post-event follow-up.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; experience with CRM databases, MailChimp, Slack, and Asana is strongly preferred.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity in handling confidential information and donor interactions.
  • Demonstrated success cultivating and stewarding relationships with diverse donors, including mid-to-major level supporters.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to drive results

MCA Denver was founded in 1996 by philanthropist Sue Cannon and a group of committed volunteers and artists who responded to the community’s need for a contemporary art museum in Denver. In 2007, we opened our  27,000-square foot, environmentally sustainable facility in the Riverfront neighborhood of Lodo Denver. Application Process

  • This is an exempt, salaried position. The salary range is $63,000 to $68,000 and includes our standard benefits package, including a medical plan, dental plan, basic term life insurance, long term disability, 403b retirement, holiday pay and paid time off.
