Offhand

What is Offhand?

Offhand is a program for alumni interns from MCA Denver’s Teen Leadership Programs and other teens interested in planning teen events.

Participants plan events and special projects, and occasionally partner with other organizations to paint murals, plan concerts, host film festivals, and much more! Offhand meets both in person and virtually. Ideation and planning for events happens online. As this group of teens is ever-changing, each group organizes a time that is convenient for all members.

MCA Teens Anti Hero Film Fest 016

Anti-Hero Short Film Festival

The Anti-Hero Film Festival seeks to share and celebrate perspectives, narratives, and experiences that have been left out of history by highlighting the voices of women, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ communities. We want to hear your voice and your story. This film festival will allow us to question the biased norms and standards placed upon us throughout our intertwined histories and champion new perceptions: how the insights from those who have been othered need to be viewed.

Open now: Anti-Hero Short Film Applications

Open now through March 11, 2025

All films are due by 11:59PM on March 11, 2025. Films are encouraged to be between one (1) and five (5) minutes. All applicants must currently be enrolled in high school. A $50 prize will be awarded to the top three films. Films will be selected by our curatorial committee, composed of teens, MCA Denver staff, and community arts members. All selected films will be showcased at the Holiday Theater on April 11, 2025 from 6 – 8PM (MST).

Films submitted to the film festival will be judged on the following criteria:

  • The filmmaker, an anti-hero”, directly or indirectly draw from their identity in their work.
  • The filmmaker shares a unique interpretation of the perspective they wish to share, or the story they want to tell.
  • The filmmaker challenges traditional historical frameworks.
  • The filmmaker uses innovative film and writing techniques.
