Thief Among Thieves

May 14, 2015 — June 28, 2015
Curated by

Nora Burnett Abrams, Ellen Bruss Curator

Thief Among Thieves featured more than twenty artists working in a broad range of styles and mediums. Rather than surveying a single theme, the exhibition instead drew connections between the world of art and the world in which we live. The title was drawn from the idea that artists continually borrow from what surrounds them – stealing” from both art history and from any place – past or present, real or imagined.

This exhibition included artwork by Mark Alexander (b. 1966, Horsham, United Kingdom), Theresa Anderson (b. 1967, St. Paul, Minnesota), Tauba Auerbach (b. 1981, Berkeley, California), Matthew Brandt (b. 1982, Los Angeles), Miguel Calderon (b. 1971, Mexico City), Amber Cobb (b. 1979, St. Louis, Missouri), Andy Coolquitt (b. 1964, Mesquite, Texas), Cynthia Daignault (b. 1978, Baltimore, Maryland), Shannon Ebner (b. 1971, Englewood, New Jersey), Sam Falls (b. 1984), Claire Fontaine (founded 2004), Ed Fornieles (b. 1983, Petersfield, United Kingdom), Theaster Gates (b. 1973, Chicago), Nathan Mabry (b. 1978, Colorado), Dmitri Obergfell (b. 1986), Laura Shill (b. 1980, Birmingham, Alabama), Angel Otero (b. 1981, San Juan, Puerto Rico), Zach Reini (b. 1990, Denver), Pedro Reyes (b. 1972, Mexico City), Mariah Robertson (b. 1975, Indianapolis, Indiana), Amanda Ross-Ho (b. 1975, Chicago), and Raqib Shaw (b. 1974, Kolkata, India).
