About the Exhibition
Jaime Carrejo: Waiting presents a new installation by the Denver-based artist that explores the relationship between confinement and duration. Through a layering of Southwestern symbolism, mid-century design, and objects from his own domestic space, Carrejo offers an environment reminiscent of an interior waiting room and exterior courtyard. These settings intend to prompt reflection on various physical and psychological barriers experienced during the pandemic but also pose the question of what will come after this extended period of waiting.

Jaime Carrejo is a multi-disciplinary artist who creates painting, sculpture, video, and immersive installations. He uses pattern and color, sourced from plants, textiles, and the Southwestern landscape, to address a relationship between place and identity. He considers the layering of materials and imagery pivotal in exploring the collision of multi-hybrid identities and alterity that form complicated relationships.
Jaime Carrejo was born in 1977 in El Paso, Texas and currently lives and works in Denver. He received his BFA from the University of Texas, El Paso in 2001 and MFA from the University of South Florida in 2007. His work is featured in periodicals, such as The New York Times, Artforum, and Hyperallergic. His work has been featured at the Museum of Design Atlanta; Denver Art Museum; University of the Andes, Bogotá, Colombia; and Mahmoud Darwish Museum, Ramallah, Palestine. He held a residency at Redline Denver from 2011-2013 and currently serves on the board of Tilt West.
