Critical Focus

Ian Fisher
January 17, 2014 — April 13, 2014
Curated by

Nora Burnett Abrams, Ellen Bruss Curator

MCA Denver presented recent paintings by Ian Fisher as part of its Critical Focus series. Capturing the fleeting moments of a skyscape and fixing them onto the canvas, these works hover between abstract patterns of color and highly recognizable imagery. The tension between the two results in dynamic, vivid and boldly-rendered pictures. Though based on photographic documentation, the paintings have the capacity to transport viewers outside the gallery and into a remote, atmospheric zone of contemplation and reflection.

Ian Fisher was born in 1984 in Nova Scotia, Canada. He received his BFA from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2006. He lives and works in Denver.
