MCA Denver presented Panes: A Study In Motion, a site-specific installation from Denver-based artist, Molly Bounds. The wall murals and paintings on canvas depicted an anonymous female figure in various poses. Interspersed across the gallery walls, the installation offered a nuanced representation of the female body. For Bounds, figures that appear active have greater agency than those in stasis. Employing illustrative conventions characteristic of comic books and graphic novels, she explores how bodies depicted in motion occupy space—the picture plane, wall, canvas, or gallery.
Molly Bounds was born in 1990 in Lewisville, Texas. She received her BFA in printmaking from Metropolitan State University, Denver in 2014. She lives and works in Denver.
