Cinema Azteca is an exciting new film series that will provide moviegoers with a diverse and dynamic perspective on the film traditions of Mexico and Latin America. Curated by artists, filmmakers, writers, and other cultural experts, Cinema Azteca will be presented weekly on Tuesday nights at the Holiday Theater. 

Cinema Azteca launched March 21 with Out of this World, three months of films selected by Eduardo Sarabia and Lorena Peña Brito.

Out of this World is a selection of surrealist films that feature altered perceptions of the world around us: whether through humor, travel, mind-altering substances, daydreams, madness, or love. The series features films from important and influential figures in Mexican cinema, including Arturo Ripstein, María Novaro, and Gerando Naranjo, as well as cinema pioneers Sergei Eisenstein and Luis Buñuel, among many others, this series explores how getting out of the world, at least symbolically, also gives us the opportunity to recreate and re-imagine it.

Salvando al Soldado Pérez (Saving Private Perez) is an epic action and adventure movie that will take you on an exciting mission to save a missing soldier. With intense performances and a plot full of twists and surprises, this movie will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end. Don’t miss this incredible story of bravery and sacrifice that will inspire you to never lose hope. 

Gerardo Naranjo is a Mexican film director and screenwriter. He was born in Mexico City and has been active in the film industry since the late 1990s. Naranjo is known for his socially conscious and thought-provoking films that often tackle important social and political issues, such as crime, drug trafficking, and corruption. He has received recognition for his work, including several awards and nominations at film festivals in Mexico and around the world. Some of his notable films include Miss Bala and Voy a explotar. Naranjo is considered to be one of the leading voices in Mexican cinema and is known for his ability to create thought-provoking and visually stunning films.

Cinema Azteca es una emocionante nueva serie de cine que ofrecerá a los espectadores una perspectiva diversa y dinámica en torno a las tradiciones cinemáticas de México y América Latina. Fuera de este mundo es una selección de películas surrealistas que muestran percepciones alteradas del mundo a nuestro alrededor: ya sea a través del humor, el viaje, sustancias que alteran la consciencia, ensoñaciones, la locura o el amor. La serie presenta películas de figuras importantes e influyentes del cine mexicano, incluyendo a Arturo Ripstein, María Novaro y Gerardo Naranjo, así como películas de los pioneros del cine Sergei Eisenstein y Luis Buñuel, entre muchos otros, esta serie explora cómo salir de este mundo, al menos simbólicamente, nos otorga la oportunidad de recrearlo y re-imaginarlo. 

Salvando al Soldado Pérez es una película épica de acción y aventuras que te llevará a una emocionante misión para salvar a un soldado desaparecido. Con actuaciones intensas y una trama llena de giros y sorpresas, esta película te mantendrá al borde de tu asiento hasta el final. Gerardo Naranjo es un director de cine y guionista mexicano. Nació en la Ciudad de México y ha estado activo en la industria del cine desde finales de la década de 1990. Naranjo es conocido por sus películas socialmente conscientes y estimulantes que a menudo abordan importantes temas sociales y políticos, como el crimen, el narcotráfico y la corrupción. Ha recibido reconocimiento por su trabajo, incluyendo varios premios y nominaciones en festivales de cine en México y alrededor del mundo. Algunas de sus películas notables incluyen Miss Bala y Voy a explotar. Naranjo es considerado una de las principales voces del cine mexicano y es conocido por su habilidad para crear películas que invitan à la reflexión y son visualmente impactantes.
