Tag Team Lectures on Unrelated Topics

It’s summertime, and your favorite off-beat lecture series is back! Mixed Taste returns to the Holiday Theater on July 10 for another season of mismatched fun! Join us as we find common ground and uncover unexpected connections between back-to-back lectures on the most unrelated topics.

At each event, two speakers take the stage, each presenting on a completely unrelated topic for twenty minutes. But the real magic happens when the audience steps in, finding unexpected connections between the two subjects. With new guest speakers, poets, comedians, and surprises every week and the charismatic Bobby LeFebre as our host, it’s a night of intellectual exploration like no other. Join us at the Holiday Theater every Wednesday!

Topics: Bioluminescent Mushrooms & the Gang of 19

Speakers: Andrew Wilson & Curt Garrett

Doors open at 6PM with drinks and snacks available for purchase.

FREE parking at North High School.

Your ticket to Mixed Taste includes admission to MCA Denver anytime before September 1. Simply show your confirmation email at the front desk of the museum.

About the Speakers

Andrew Wilson is the Assistant Curator of Mycology in the Sam Mitchel Herbarium of Fungi at Denver Botanic Gardens. His research involves research on the patterns and processes that shape mushroom diversity and has traveled the world to document and describe new species. As curator he is an advocate for fungaria (e.g., museums for fungi) and works closely with amateur mycologists to promote collecting mushrooms for science. In Colorado he is actively working to better understand the diversity of mushrooms in Rocky Mountain forest ecosystems.

Curt Garrett, a 3rd generation native Coloradan, grew up in Lakewood where he attended a segregated school for students with disabilities until high school. He was one of the first students to be mainstreamed” in Jefferson County, graduated from Green Mountain High School in 1979, and received a BA in Recreation Administration from Metro State Denver in 1988.
Currently, Curt serves as the Atlantis Community Disaster Preparedness Coordinator. Atlantis is a Center for Independent Living serving 7 metro Denver counties. Their mission is to advocate for people with disabilities to live in their own fully integrated communities of their own choosing. He started working at Atlantis on June 1, 2020, after 27 years of working for Denver Parks & Recreation as a youth developer. In 2011, Curt attended the FEMA Get Real Conference” and heard the tragic story of a woman who drowned during Hurricane Katrina because she had no way of getting out of her home. Curt’s goal is for Atlantis to become a national model in shaping and sustaining the culture of preparedness throughout our whole community.
