Tag Team Lectures on Unrelated Topics

It’s summertime, and your favorite off-beat lecture series is back! Mixed Taste returns to the Holiday Theater on July 10 for another season of mismatched fun! Join us as we find common ground and uncover unexpected connections between back-to-back lectures on the most unrelated topics.

At each event, two speakers take the stage, each presenting on a completely unrelated topic for twenty minutes. But the real magic happens when the audience steps in, finding unexpected connections between the two subjects. With new guest speakers, poets, comedians, and surprises every week and the charismatic Bobby LeFebre as our host, it’s a night of intellectual exploration like no other. Join us at the Holiday Theater every Wednesday!

Topics: Aurora Borealis & Wood Type Printing

Speakers: Rodney Viereck & Rick Griffith

Doors open at 6PM with drinks and snacks available for purchase.

FREE parking at North High School.

Your ticket to Mixed Taste includes admission to MCA Denver anytime before September 1. Simply show your confirmation email at the front desk of the museum.

About the Speakers

Rodney Viereck received a PhD in Space Physics in 1988 from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks studying aurora and airglow in the skies above Alaska and Svalbard. He is now retired after working for 31 years as a scientist for the US Air Force Research Laboratory and for NOAA’s National Weather Service studying how space weather impacts technologies at Earth. Rodney currently works part-time at the University of Colorado, supporting NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center by maintaining the OVATION Aurora Forecast model for the National Weather Service. Rodney and his wife love to ski, bike, hike, and build furniture. He also volunteers with Ignite Adaptive Sports teaching people with emotional and physical disabilities how to ski… but that’s another story.

For 35 years, Rick Griffith has been a full-time designer, occasional writer, frequent teacher, activist, and letterpress printer, who produces, collects, and loves artifacts that are sometimes qualified to be discussed as art. He participates in the design laboratory called MATTER, which has a bookstore, and a community print shop. He is inspired by the intersection of design and social justice.
