Over the River: A Project for the Arkansas River, State of Colorado, A Work in Progress was an exhibition of work by Christo and Jeanne-Claude and featured preparatory sketches and visionary drawings for their proposed project of the same name. Over the River, scheduled for the summer of 2013, was a site-specific installation to take place in eight sections of a 40-mile stretch over the Arkansas River, from Salida to Cañon City, Colorado. The works on paper in this exhibition combine the silvery, luminous fabric samples to be used in the project with sketches of the rugged terrain of the Rocky Mountain landscape where the work will be installed. Christo and Jeanne-Claude began work on Over the River in 1995, and Christo has continued progress on the installation following Jeanne-Claude’s death in 2009. Pending approval of the public project, Over the River was to be exhibited above the Arkansas River for two weeks in the summer of 2013.

*In January 2017, after pursuing Over The River for 20 years and going through five years of legal arguments, Christo decided to no longer wait on the outcome and devote all of his energy, time and resources into the realization of The Mastaba, Project for Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
