Month of Photography

8 de marzo de 2013 — 7 de abril de 2013
Curated by Mark Sink

MCA Denver thanks the citizens of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District.

MCA Denver presented Transitions in Life, a work by Pablo Gimenez Zapiola for Denver’s Month of Photography. Zapiola created an animation video composed from a sequence of long-exposure photographs of a single subject and then looped. The animation has the effect of appearing infinite and endless, creating a sense of mystery and facilitating a contemplative experience for the viewer.

Early on in life, Pablo Gimenez-Zapiola developed a particular interest in art and aesthetics, which led him to experiment with diverse visual expression techniques to develop and express his ideas. He learned composition and the subtlety and richness of color through painting. Photography allowed him to experiment in the darkroom and to capture reality in a variety of ways. Finally, architecture gave him knowledge of the function and the skills for assemblage and 3D visualization. After completing his degree in architecture, he gained some working experience that led him toward graphic design. This combination of backgrounds taught him to understand art as a way of enhancing meaning in life and at the same time provided him a broader spectrum of resources to draw from and greater freedom to create.

Pablo Gimenez-Zapiola’s received his BA at the Universidad de Belgrano, Buenos Aires. His work has been exhibited at Espacio Buenos Aires, Argentina; Fundación Hampatu, Argentina; Centro Cultural Recoleta, Argentina; Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago; Redline Contemporary Art Center, Denver; Lehigh University Art Galleries, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; Contemporary Arts Museum Houston; Houston Center for Photography; and Newspace Center for Photography, Portland, Oregon.
