Curated by Adam Lerner, Mark G. Falcone MaFa” Director & Chief Animator

Kim Dorland: Everyday Monsters was supported by Wayne F.J. Yakes, M.D. MCA Denver also thanks the citizens of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District.

Kim Dorland’s painting practice explores themes that resonate far beyond his own personal experience. For Kim Dorland: Everyday Monsters, the artist took unusual subjects such as zombies, Sasquatch, and Jason of Friday the 13th, and paired them with sunsets, landscapes, and domestic scenes. His dark (and at times darkly comic) paintings have a dense physical presence that transcends their subject matter and offers new perspectives on more conventional subjects.

Kim Dorland was born in 1974 in Alberta, Canada. He received his MFA from York University, Toronto. His work has been the subject of solo presentations at Contemporary Calgary, Canada; Angell Gallery, Toronto; McMichael Canadian Art Collection, Ontario; Mike Weiss Gallery, New York; and Gallery Bianca, Palermo, Italy. He lives and works in Toronto.
