Curated by Zoe Larkins, Curatorial Associate

MCA Denver also thanks the citizens of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District.

Lanny DeVuono works in outer space — as she imagines it. Her recent series of drawings, Here and Elsewhere, comprises visualizations of extraterrestrial environments that are informed by satellite photographs and scientific research, as well as Hollywood’s portrayal of our galaxy. DeVuono’s work references historical landscape traditions, particularly those of the American West, while also addressing the politics of exploration and the recent privatization of outer space. In illustrating her visions of foreign planets in this way, DeVuono invites us to contemplate what we know of the universe — and the implications and limits of that knowledge.

Lanny DeVuono was born in 1951 in Evanston, Illinois. She lives and works in Denver.
