MCA Denver is excited to collaborate with KUVO for a night dedicated to the outer limits of jazz.

For 40 years, KUVO has been Denver’s home for music that defies boundaries, and no program captures that adventurous spirit like Jazz Odyssey. To celebrate this milestone, KUVO Jazz is partnering with MCA Denver for a night dedicated to the outer limits of jazz, featuring one of the show’s original visionaries: Joshua Trinidad.

An Indigenous, Chicano American trumpet player, composer, and producer from Denver, Trinidad transforms jazz by weaving in ambient textures, rock energy, electronic pulses, lo-fi warmth, and hip-hop grit. His sound is as much shaped by the poetry of the Rocky Mountains as it is by the pulse of city streets. With a career spanning the U.S., Europe, and Central Asia, and collaborations with artists from Sage Francis to Chicano Batman to Nathaniel Rateliff, Trinidad has built a sonic world that’s wholly his own.

For this one-night-only performance, Trinidad has assembled an extraordinary lineup of Denver artists connected to Jazz Odyssey’s fearless ethos:

Danette Hollowell – Vocals

Joshua Trinidad – Trumpet

Luke Maxon – Keys

Max Haas – Bass

Alex Armstrong – Drums

Jozer Guerrero – Poet

DJ K‑Née (Ken Hamblin) – DJ

From soaring improvisations to hypnotic grooves, genre-bending beats to spoken word revelations, this is more than a concert; it’s a celebration of four decades of KUVO, the city’s creative heartbeat, and the future of jazz.

Your event ticket includes admission to MCA Denver anytime before February 15, 2026. Please present your confirmation email at the museum’s front desk.

A portion of ticket proceeds will be donated to KUVO. Support public media!

About the Artists

Joshua Trinidad is a Indigenous, Chicano American trumpet player, composer and producer from Denver Colorado, who takes multiple styles of music such as jazz, ambient, rock, electronic and lo-fi, as well as elements from hip hop and effortlessly reshapes them into his unique soundscape. His remarkable ease in handling the often-contrary conventions of jazz” ensured a strong interest in both acoustic and electric music. This chameleon-like ability soon established him as a much sought-after musician in the southwest region of the United States as well as in Europe and Central Asia, ultimately led to his colorful and diverse resume as a sideman. During his time recording and performing in Scandinavia, Joshua Trinidad was introduced to Giacomo Bruzzo, who welcomed him into his prestigious and much-lauded roster RareNoise Records in London, England. Alongside recording Joshua’s own material, he has recorded many studio sessions with artists such as Sage Francis, Chicano Batman, Nathaniel Rateliff, Kid Frost, DJ Lethal, Ken Burns, Riatsu, Umlaut and many artists and bands in the Denver Metro Area. Joshua Trinidad is a thriving artist on the EchoTonic Records label in Mumbai, India.

José Jozer” Guerrero is a poet, actor and lead singer for Denver Xicano Funk band Los Mocochetes.

Danette Hollowell is a singer, songwriter, and classically trained dancer in Denver, CO. After a chance encounter with an opportunity to take part in a jazz scholarship at UCD, her professional career began to blossom. Hollowell has brought an edge, dynamism, and beautiful charisma to the Denver music scene, and it’s her solo vocals and creative stamina that has carried her through the years and changes in the music industry. Hollowell says, Performance art is my passion and I am grateful to have many ways I can express myself through my passion be it theatre, dance, or vocal Jazz.” Hollowell went through phases of questioning her belonging” in the professional music scene but found solace in learning about icons like Billie Holiday which prompted her to own her passion for music. I began to see myself in the stories and my own experiences in those icons and greats and decided that I belonged here, hardships and all. There is real beauty in challenges, to me, all that I was experiencing was TRUE art.”
