The Position

MCA Denver is seeking an exceptional Marketing Director to join our team. We are looking for a creative, passionate, and driven individual who can develop and execute strategic marketing plans while showcasing their creative talents to enhance the museum's brand and reach new audiences. As a vital member of our team, you will collaborate with internal departments, serve as a mentor, and effectively communicate our exhibitions, programs and events, and other institutional priorities to both existing and potential audiences. This is a full-time position with benefits, and the successful candidate will be expected to work on-site at least two days a week. Our headquarters, and this position, are based in downtown Denver.

A Day in the Life

Marketing Strategy

  • Develop and execute the museum’s short- and long-term marketing strategy in consultation with the Director of Communications, Partnerships, and Digital Initiatives. 
  • Develop and execute paid marketing campaigns; manage ROI tracking.
  • Develop a calendar of marketing campaigns and related tactics that incorporates all the museum’s varied scheduled exhibitions, events, and needs; hold the marketing team accountable to meeting internal goals and deadlines; communicate deliverables to relevant internal parties.
  • Identify opportunities to generate new leads; develop and execute a plan to convert visitors to long-term supporters; and enhance existing efforts to increase visitation and revenues and deepen audience engagement.
  • Identify and analyze segment data to optimize earned revenue marketing campaigns; consistently apply performance metrics to inform future campaigns.
  • Provide essential project management and organization for the department as well as cross-departmentally, ensuring teammates are aware of relevant tasks, deadlines are met, and through regular communication with external partners; look holistically at the exhibition and public programming calendar, as well as fundraising and retail operations needs to balance tasks and deliverables.
  • Responsible for the museum brand and voice, ensuring consistent application across communication channels.
  • Develop a content calendar for the museum’s blog, in coordination with marketing team members, contribute copywriting or identify opportunities to elicit content from outside contributors.
  • In coordination with the Digital Producer and Storyteller, ensure digital initiatives have corresponding marketing plans, including performance goals; continue to identify creative and timely opportunities to experiment with new digital initiatives.

 

Audience Analysis

  • Develop strategy for integrating various data points collected (Google analytics, social media ad analytics, audience surveys and more) identifying appropriate times to review those data points, and compose a narrative based on that information to help inform future strategy. 
  • Lead team in regular KPI dashboard conversations, guiding toward understanding the key takeaways, and tactical changes that may need to be implemented based on data.
  • Support the Director of Communications, Partnerships & and Digital Initiatives in gathering metrics for quarterly board meetings and sponsorship fulfillment.
  • Conduct regular market research and identify market trends.

 

People Leadership

    • Recruit, hire, train, mentor, supervise, and evaluate a team of direct reports.
    • Inspire staff members to think both creatively and strategically, stay coordinated, prioritize effectively, and work in concert to bring the museum brand and voice to life.
    • Leads and supervises the work of others.

 

Collaboration

    • In collaboration with the Graphic Designer and Digital Marketing Associate, oversee brand refresh integration, website upgrades, and other projects as needed to ensure consistency, clarity, and adherence to style and brand guidelines.
    • Collaborate with the Digital Marketing Associate to develop a website strategy, including identifying content needs and outlining SEO/SEM needs.
    • Oversee external departmental vendors including web team, MailChimp, and other freelancers.
    • This position will interact with managers at all levels and staff members across the organization, in addition to members of external organizations and the public. 

 

What You Bring to Us

  • A four-year degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, English or Liberal Arts preferred, or in a related field, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Requires minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing, long-range planning, audience analysis and data-driven decision-making.
  • Must have at least 3 years’ experience leading and supervising others.
  • Experience overseeing an organization's design, ownership of brand voice and identity, and social media management is preferred.
  • Spanish fluency is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and G Suites, MailChimp, YouTube, HTML, Adobe Creative Suite, paid social media interfaces, and Hootsuite are necessary.  Experience with Google Grant Ads and Shopify is preferred.
  • Requires excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work and tasks.
  • Requires adaptability to produce and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-task environment, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Must have good decision-making skills and the ability to handle sensitive information with diplomacy.
  • Mostly Days; occasionally nights and weekends for Museum and external events.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to speak, understand, and communicate in English effectively, in person and in writing. Ability to hear adequately in person and by phone, in personal and group settings.
  • Ability to work with, and process information from, a variety of individuals and media (e.g. computers, projected images, printed materials), and sitting and/or standing up to 6 hours per day.
  • Mobility necessary to access various offices and a wide variety of meeting and museum settings. Mobility necessary to perform a variety of tasks that involve standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending and twisting, occasionally climbing stairs or using an elevator, possibly reaching chest high and overhead for materials.
  • Ability to reach for, move and/or lift up to 25 pounds and the use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • The nature of this position requires safeguarding against the release of confidential and proprietary information of MCA.
  • Assists with establishing and is responsible for adhering to departmental operational budgets.
  • Other assistance, as designated by the Director of Communications, Partnerships & Digital Initiatives, to support the overall goals of the department and organization.  Management retains the right to add or change duties and/or responsibilities at any time.

Our History

MCA Denver was founded in 1996 by philanthropist Sue Cannon and a group of committed volunteers and artists who responded to the community’s need for a contemporary art museum in Denver. In 2007, we opened our new, 27,000-square foot, environmentally sustainable facility in the Riverfront neighborhood of Lodo Denver. Our building has five galleries on two floors as well as dedicated education spaces, a gift shop, an innovative art lending library, and a rooftop bar and café.  In 2021, MCA Denver opened a satellite location at the Holiday Theater in Denver’s Northside.  This 380-seat auditorium is the site of museum programming and events.

  • This is an exempt, salary position. The salary range is $90,000 to $100,000 commensurate with experience and includes our standard benefits package, including a medical plan, dental plan, basic term life insurance, short term disability, 403b retirement, holiday pay and generous paid time off.
