The Position

MCA Denver is looking for a savvy, creative digital talent to help the museum manage and enhance our current digital offerings and identify new ways for us to connect with audiences. This position requires someone who has a knack for telling compelling stories, is a marketer at heart (meaning they are always focused on engaging the audience) and has a deep curiosity about new digital programs and platforms. 

The Digital Producer & Storyteller will create, coordinate, supervise, and plan museum projects involving the creation of digital media, including virtual programming/events, digital content for social media and in-gallery uses, and other content. The Digital Producer & Storyteller collaborates with multiple teams and departments to design and develop a range of digital programs, campaigns, and content marketing.  We are headquartered, and this position is based, in the downtown Denver area. The position is full-time with benefits and requires a minimum of two days per week onsite to connect with the larger team, while planning and program administration may productively occur remotely.

  • You enjoy working independently and taking a project from idea to completion.
  • You have a proven ability and eagerness to identify technology gaps and learn new skills quickly.
  • The desire to work with a dynamic, diverse, and collaborative team, usually during regular museum operating hours with occasional night availability to support our epic events.

A Day in the Life

Digital Content Creation

  • Oversee the production of digital media, including videos, digital programming/events, gallery interpretation, and podcasts, among others.
  • Produce, script, act as project manager, and publish video content for web, social media, and email, in coordination with outside talent and contractors, the Director of Communications, Partnerships and Digital Initiatives, as well as various museum team members.
  • Manage digital museum events and programming, including coordinating with project managers to develop pre-program briefs, identify program delivery methods and platforms, provide necessary and clear communications to optimize audience experience, build workflows, create documentation, call the show, resolve technology issues on the fly, and produce post-event program reports.
  • Produce audio and video content for the museum, including scheduling recording times, setting up recording studio (virtual or in-person), creating script outlines and preparatory research, ensuring a smooth recording session, editing, requesting payments for guests and hosts, writing episode copy, creating digital marketing assets, and publishing.
  • Update website content related to digital programming and assist with the organization of new and existing website content and navigation
  • Track metrics related to digital offerings, share data with relevant stakeholders, and offer suggestions for improvements based on that data.

Collaboration

  • Coordinate with internal team members, as well as outside talent and contractors, to create online video, audio, and other digital content that tells the story of the museum and the artists we work with, and embodies MCA Denver’s core values of excellence, adventurousness, inclusivity, and human-centricity.
  • In coordination with the Senior Design and Marketing Manager, help determine what is possible within the framework of the CMS, create wireframes and page layouts, as well as recommend new ideas to continually enhance the website’s functionality and ease of use.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Communications, Partnerships and Digital Initiatives, ideate and test new initiatives to expand what a 21st century museum can be.

Financial

  • Work with the Director of Communications, Partnerships and Digital Initiatives to establish and work within a digital production operating budget.

What You Bring to Us

  1. College degree preferred, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience. 
  2. Requires minimum of three years of experience in content creation, marketing, audio/visual media, live events, arts, or a similar field.
  3. A minimum of two years of hands-on experience with computer software related to graphic design, web design, video editing, and audio editing.
  4. Working knowledge of web-based digital content delivery platforms, from Zoom to YouTube to Instagram.
  5. Bonus points for experience in Asana, Canva, Drupal, StreamYard, Slido, Shopify, and/or TikTok.

Our History

MCA Denver was founded in 1996 by philanthropist Sue Cannon and a group of committed volunteers and artists who responded to the community’s need for a contemporary art museum in Denver. In 2007, we opened our new, 27,000-square foot, environmentally sustainable facility in the Riverfront neighborhood of lodo Denver. Our building has five galleries on two floors as well as dedicated education spaces, a gift shop, an innovative art lending library, and a rooftop bar and café.  In 2021, MCA Denver will be opening a satellite location at the Holiday Theater in Denver’s Northside.  This 380-seat auditorium will be the site of some of the museum’s programming and events beginning the Spring of 2022.

Physical Requirements

  • You need to be able to sit or stand for 6 hours per day. While not frequent, you need to reach for, move and/or 25 pounds and use your hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, mobility to access a wide variety of meeting and museum settings, and to perform a variety of tasks that involve standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, and twisting, occasionally climbing stairs or using an elevator, possibly reaching chest high and overhead for materials, with reasonable accommodation.

  • This is an exempt, salary position. The salary range is $53,000 to $57,000 commensurate with experience and includes our standard benefits package, including a medical plan, dental plan, basic term life insurance, short term disability, 403b retirement, holiday pay and generous paid time off.
