Jeff Starr
FEBRUARY 26-MAY 25, 2008

Jeff Starr returned to painting after several years of experimentation in sculpture. Starr's oeuvre includes movie star portraits, representations of tree stumps, and sculpted heads of young artists and musicians.

References to human habitations, seen in his paintings for his exhibition at MCA Denver, are new subject matter for Starr. He combines realistic and imagined occupied terrain, resulting in a surrealistic built environment that is distinctly his own, located somewhere between reality and fantasy.

Jeff Starr was born in the United States in 1956 and currently lives and works in Denver, CO. He has had numerous exhibitions throughout the Western United States, including the Denver Art Museum, CO and MCA Denver, CO. Starr has been the recipient of several grants, including a National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artist Fellowship Grant.
